HOW ELECTION POLITICS AND A WEALTHY DONOR COULD STRIP DOWN STEM CELL REGULATION — Sen. Mark Kirk’s (R-Ill.) REGROW Act would allow companies to sell stem-cell therapies that have been shown to be safe but haven’t yet been proven effective. The bill, which disturbs some federal regulators and medical research experts, is being pushed by Ed Bosarge, a wealthy, beret-wearing Texan who has donated $2 million to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s super PAC since October.
