GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
  


The general purpose of this position is to inspect all Wyoming resident pharmacies annually to verify that all licensees and registrants located in this state are operating within the statues or rules and regulations governing their practice or business as contained in the Wyoming Pharmacy Act and/or Wyoming Controlled Substances Act or their Rules and Regulations. This position also investigates consumer complaints or problems identified during routine inspections and assists the Board of Pharmacy in applying discipline in cases where licensees or registrants fail to comply with requirements as set forth in the statutes and/or rules and regulations.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
  • Inspects all resident pharmacies annually including institutional and retail.
  • Investigates consumer complaints or problems identified during routine inspections.
  • Assists with program coordination and tasks related to board programs.
  • Supports effective communication and maintains the highest standards of personal, professional, and ethical conduct to support the State’s goals.
  • Provides consultant support and is liaison to other agencies and Statewide programs needing pharmacy expertise.
  • Provides support and assistance to the Executive Director and board in working with legislators to create and implement effective pharmacy bills.
  • Attends meetings and conferences and accepts speaking engagements on the Executive Director’s behalf if he/she is unable to attend.
  • Assists in precepting pharmacy interns during their experiential rotations at the board.
  • Acts as a resource for Wyoming citizens, state agencies, as well as other public and private groups as requested on topics relating to pharmacy practice.
  • Coordinates and interacts with Wyoming regulatory boards and local, state, and federal law enforcement efforts regarding pharmacy practices especially in regards to controlled substances.
  • Reviews current system processes in order to ensure accuracy of agency records regarding licensees,  investigations and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the statutes and rules and regulations regarding the practice of pharmacy.
 Qualifications:

PREFERENCES: 

Preference may be given to those with experience as a pharmacist in both community and institutional pharmacies.
Preference may be given to those with previous regulatory experience.
Preference may be given to those with the ability to work with, evaluate, and implement technology to assist in inspections, investigations, and record-keeping.
Preference may be given to those with the ability to interview complainants and witnesses.
Preference may be given to those with the ability to organize investigations and analyze them in regards to current practice and regulations.
Preference may be given to those with PharmD degree.
Preference may be given to those with experience as a manager or supervisor.


KNOWLEDGE:  Examples of Knowledge are intended to be cumulative for each progressively higher level of work.  The omission of specific statements does not preclude management from assigning other knowledge.
  • Knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices of pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of the basic premises of medical practice, pharmacology and toxicology.
  • Knowledge of Wyoming and federal laws that apply to the practice of pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of computer systems (Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of personnel policies and rules.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Pharmacy)
PLUS
Experience:
1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Pharmacy)
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
None
 
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Licensure or eligible for licensure as a Pharmacist in the State of Wyoming



 Necessary Special Requirements:


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


Driving to inspection locations, sometimes long distances.
Requires spending nights away from home.
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving, etc.
Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
