A nurse at a Saint Thomas Health-affiliated clinic negotiated for bargain drug prices then switched suppliers — a decision that brought contaminated steroids to Nashville, where people were sickened with fungal meningitis and other infections, according to legal allegations.
The nurse, Debra Schamberg, is scheduled to be deposed this week as local lawsuits from the 2012 fungal meningitis outbreak begin to become untangled from a complicated bankruptcy filing. Dozens of civil lawsuits from across the nation were consolidated into the bankruptcy filing of New England Compounding Center, the maker of the steroid. more
