The FDA said that it would use its discretion whether to visit pharmacies opting out of the outsourcing facilities option. Its decision would be based on whether a pharmacy poses a risk to the public with the kinds of drugs it produces. In most states, pharmacies self-report what they produce and in what quantity. Meanwhile, state boards of pharmacy will continue to have primary responsibility for the day-to-day oversight of state licensed pharmacies, including traditional pharmacy compounding drugs.
