IACP Report on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Requests Cloture on HR 3204

Shortly after 4:00 PM this afternoon (11.6.13), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid requested cloture on HR 3204 - the Drug Quality and Security Act.  Cloture is a term that means, to "end debate and get ready to vote."

In almost all cases, the Senate does not act on the cloture motion on the day on which it is submitted, or on the following day. Instead, the next action on the motion usually occurs on the following calendar day plus one — that is, on the second day of session after it is presented. So if the motion is presented on a Monday, the Senate acts on it on Wednesday. In this case, unless the Senate is formally on Friday or Monday, it will be voted on next Tuesday.
