A.S.P.E.N. Call to Action
The American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.) wants you to reach out to your elected officials on the following issues:
Parenteral Nutrition Safety
During the past several years, many circumstances and incidents have threatened the safety of patients receiving PN as an important therapy. Shortages have increased this risk and PN components have to be produced at compounding pharmacies rather than manufacturers. A.S.P.E.N. believes FDA oversight of high-alert medication compounding such a PN and its components will increase PN safety overall. By supporting S. 959, the Pharmaceutical Compounding Quality and Accountability Act, laws can be put into place to improve oversight of these compounding practices. Please write to your legislators to support this bill.
Parenteral Nutrition Drug Shortages
A.S.P.E.N. members and constituents have been dealing with ongoing PN drug shortage for several years. Despite the passage of the Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act in 2012, PN component shortages continue. We encourage all to contact their legislators to express support for further legislation and action on this important topic. . Together we can really make a difference with this issue. Please take the time to write to your legislator today and spread the word to your colleagues and friends. See more information on contacting your legislator below.
