The Minnesota Board of Pharmacy has revoked the license of a New England pharmacy implicated in last year's multi-state outbreak of fungal meningitis.
The license revocation was issued by the board Wednesday, March 13, and resolves allegations that New England Compounding Center was acting as a drug wholesaler or manufacturer when shipping medications into Minnesota.
New England Compounding Center did not admit wrongdoing. But the board's order referenced allegations from Massachusetts regulators who contend the company did not have patient-specific prescriptions when dispensing medications.
If the charge were proven, it would mean NECC was operating as a drug distributor or manufacturer in Minnesota without a license to do so, said Cody Wiberg, executive director of the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.
The order issued Wednesday states that NECC agreed to the license revocation "to conclude this matter without further cost." In December, New England Compounding Center filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
