A federal judge in Massachusetts
has ruled that meningitis
lawsuits filed against the New England Compounding Center (NECC) may
proceed, and said evidence in the cases must be preserved, Bernstein Liebhard
LLP reports. In a decision announced yesterday, U.S. District Judge Dennis
Saylor also said he would consolidate about a dozen meningitis lawsuits
currently pending in federal court in Boston that have been filed by alleged
victims of NECC epidural steroid injections. NECC had asked Judge Saylor to
delay the cases in lieu of a decision next year by the Judicial
Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) on whether all federally-filed
meningitis lawsuits pending against the company should be consolidated in a
