Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg testified Wednesday, 14 November, 2012, before the House Energy subcommittee on oversight and investigations hearing about fungal meningitis outbreak. Without the legislation better, Hamburg, says more outbreaks can occur.

Food and Drug Administration officials know little about compounding pharmacies in the United States, including who all drugs and medical supplies, as they are made and where they are sent, the commissioner of the agency Thursday.

Even with the re-examination showed pharmacy blamed for making and distributing a contaminated drug business with filthy conditions, and do not follow the rules, regulators at the FDA were arguing about how much they can really do to extinguish them, Hamburg said at a Senate hearing.
Hamburg and Dr. Lauren Smith, Interim Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, to face a day of testing at the Congress outbreak. “While the quick work of the public health community has led to early detection and treatment of many cases of meningitis, and reduce deaths arising from contaminated methylprednisolone administration, committees of inquiry suggests that this crisis should have, and can, really avoid it,” Senate Health, Education , Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee Report reads.
