Several medical facilities in North Texas were named on a 28-page client list posted by the FDA on its website Monday evening. The facilities were purported to have received recalled medication from New England Compounding Center, which produced tainted medications now believed responsible for a deadly nationwide meningitis outbreak.
Another 261-page list was posted, detailing the specific products that supposedly went to those clinics. But within hours, those files were taken down from the FDA website, replaced by a note that read, "FDA has found some technical problems with the list and the data are incorrect."
It is unclear how the FDA published inaccurate information.
Dallas County Medical Director Zach Thompson wants people to remain calm throughout what he admits is a "scary process."
As of now, two North Texas facilities have been confirmed to have administered potentially tainted injections: the Dallas Back Pain Management Center and Texas Health Harris Methodist in Southlake.
Anyone who has been exposed to potentially tainted medication from the New England Compounding Center should have already been notified. If the list of facilities that received questionable medication grows, Thompson stressed, those facilities will tell their patients.
"What we're hearing is basically, clinics, hospitals, anyone who received the medication from this compounding center is going to reach out to their patients, so we suggest everyone wait until they receive a letter or call," he said.
